Spirit 105.3 is the most popular Christian music radio station in the Seattle area. Although a commercial station, it is affiliated with Christa Ministries. The station has managed to find exactly the right mix of contemporary Christian music, upbeat messages, and engaging personalities (e.g. Scott & Sam in the morning, etc.). They advertise themselves as "family friendly", "kid safe", and "encouraging". They achieve all these. Although not a Christian book, The Girl Within (author Emily Hancock, 1996) is, nevertheless, a very interesting study on the association between age and character development for girls. Written in the style of a sociological academic study, it is difficult to read; however, if you can get past that, there is valuable information on girl development. Out of print, used copies can be found through online sources for less than $4.

Our Daily Bread is wonderful daily devotional reading published by RBC Ministries. Each day has a short story with a related bible quote, plus a suggested bible reading. Whether you only read the story, or go further to read the bible verse and quote, you will feel fed by the goodness of the Lord. Our Daily Bread is available online at www.rbc.org, or you may order the paper pamphlet version published and mailed quarterly without charge (although RBC encourages a small donation to offset the costs of printing and mailing).
